Rangiwahia Hut via Deadman’s

Top of the world … or Ruahine Ranges at least

Solo trip up to Rangiwahia Hut then up to Mangihuia and back via Deadman’s track. A perfect summer’s day, if somewhat hot to go high up in the Ruahine Range. Great views of the central plateau from the car park before starting the track through beech forest.

Tunupo Trig

From one side of the island to another

Big adventure up to Tunupo Trig in the Ngamoko range near Apiti, from the Iron Gates track, turning off just before Alice Nash Memorial Heritage Lodge. Through mixed bush into beech forest, spongy underfoot with the layers of fallen beech leaves. Beautiful surroundings with lots of mossy cover giving everything a soft focus. Onwards & upwards & there was plenty of up!

Potou Walk

This amazing walk is 7km in each direction around the northern Kaipara harbour. Best done at low tide as we discovered #wetfeet. Worth for the views, wild seas, dotterels, amazing dunes & a lighthouse even though it is a bit of a scramble up the dunes to the lighthouse itself.
